You can certainly tell when a particular type of dog was "in fashion" - - spaniels, dachshunds and borzois were the pups of choice during particular decades. The same can be said of Siamese; quite a few celebs chose this breed of cat.
Interesting side notes on some of these pets: Sharon Tate's dog Guiness was given to her while she was filming Eye of the Devil in England. Roscoe Arbuckle's dog Luke appeared with him in many of his films. John Wayne's dog Blackie saved the Duke's wife and baby from a house fire in 1958. Rudolph Valentino's dog Kabar was so heartbroken after his master's death, his grief stricken howls could reportedly be heard coming from the residence and the sad pup died shortly thereafter. Carole Lombard and Clark Gable were well known animal lovers and proved it on their Encino ranch. Brigitte Bardot was such an animal activist that she started a foundation. Errol Flynn was a devoted animal lover; he bred award winning Rhodesian Ridgebacks and had a lifelong menagerie of pets, including his Siamese Bes Mudi, who often accompanied him on board his boat.
